Greetings!
Greetings!
I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the department of Sociology and Criminology at Howard University. My award-winning research and teaching bridges the literatures of race, culture, and reproduction, and medical sociology to examine intersectional inequalities in health and healthcare.
In my current project, I peel back the layers of Black maternal health experiences in the US through interviews with expectant mothers and health providers and observations of care dynamics on a hospital labor and delivery unit. I find that while many conceptualize the risks apparent in Black maternal health, the risks to which providers and patients are attuned are different and culminate in patients and providers speaking past each other.
